2018-2019 Black-Eyed Susan Book Club
The purpose of the Black-Eyed Susan Book Award Program is to promote life-long reading habits by encouraging students to read and enjoy quality contemporary literature that broadens understanding of the human experience. Black Eyed Susan books are literature that has been written in the past 3 years and is nominated by MD School Librarians.
The BES Book Club is open to all fourth and fifth grade students. To participate students must read or have read to them at least five of this year's nominated books, submit a summary of each book read, and have submitted a completed permission slip.
Students are also welcomed to attend each month's BES Book Club meeting where they will have the opportunity to join together and share their summaries as well as partaking in a general discussion about each month's book. (Dates below) In April, students will be allowed to vote for the one book that they feel should be awarded the Black Eyed Susan Book Award. Votes will be submitted along with other schools from across the state of Maryland to determine the winner.
Student summary sheets can be found here.
